Look no further - Emdoneni Lodge situated on a small game farm in Hluhluwe between two Big Five game reserves, is the ideal place to enjoy a family holiday. A short two-hour drive from Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, this multi award-winning 3-star Lodge with an abundance of wildlife and natural vegetation, superb accommodation, exceptional food and impeccable service is where your dream of a true African holiday will become a reality – the place where parents can bring their children to experience and discover the wildlife of Africa.

The accommodation offered - African-style rondavels and chalets with all the necessary creature comforts - is ideal for families, and there is the secluded Windfall Cottage that is ideal for couples. There is also a swimming pool close to a covered patio and bar area.

Emdoneni Lodge, with its family-orientated style offers loads of outdoor activities in and around the Lodge for the whole family. Apart from the Big Five game drives, and the guided/non-guided walks where you’ll most likely bump into zebra, impala, nyala and red and grey duiker, and birdwatching where you’ll catch glimpses of Narina Trogons, Brown Hooded King Fishers, the Purple Crested Lourie (the national bird of the Kingdom of Swaziland) and many others, there’s the Zululand Cat Conservation Project - the heart and soul of Emdoneni - established by the owners Louis and Cecillie Nel to facilitate environmental education and conservation of cheetah and other smaller wild cats.

The Zululand Cat Conservation Project has daily guided tours at 10:30 and 16:30. Adults - R180 / school-going children - R90.

“You’ll be mesmerised by the beauty of the caracal (lynx), enchanted by the playful serval, astonished by the speed and agility of the cheetah and delighted by the African wildcat”,

says Cecillie.

Emdoneni Lodge prides itself on actively welcoming children of all ages. With its specially designed Kids Programme they’ll get to experience activities (designed with their interests and attention span in mind) that they’d not normally enjoy in the city. Game drives, night drives, guided walks, bug-scouting, night-time frogging, the fun (for some) ‘spot the poop’ course, and target and catty shooting.

For those kids that dream of being a Game Ranger there’s the Emdoneni Junior Game Ranger Training Course where the kids spend time with an expert guide learning about different cat species (cheetah, African wildcat, serval and caracal), the resident animals like antelope, birds, crawling insects, tree identificationgame tracking and spoor identification. On completion of the two-hour long course the young ranger will receive a Junior Ranger Certificate.

The Emdoneni Junior Game Ranger Course - 4 to 12 years - R415 per child.

While the kids are out ‘adventuring’, mom and dad can make good use of the time-out for a bit of personal pampering at the Emdoneni Spa.
