Bring your struggling plants to the free Bonsai Hospital, enjoy live music while the kids have fun with free activities in the Kids' Zone, get expert advice and shop one of South Africa's biggest plant shows at Killarney Mall from 30 October to 1 November

Some have spent decades shaping a single bonsai. Others arrive with trucks of succulents or rare plants, and then there are the orchid growers, patient enough to put up with the divas of the plant world. This year, almost 60 growers, exhibitors and vendors are setting up at Killarney Mall for the Annual Houghton Bonsai, Succulent & Plant Show, from 30 October to 1 November 2026.

With the largest exhibitor line-up in the show's history, this plant extravaganza is believed to be one of South Africa's biggest plant shows.

Now in its fourth year, the show won a Bronze Award at the 2022 SACSC Footprint Marketing Awards and has built a loyal following of collectors and first-time plant buyers alike. Visitors can ask questions and buy straight from the experts who grow plants you won't find anywhere else.

What's on this year:

  • FREE Bonsai Hospital: Got a plant that's not doing well? Bring it along to the Plant Hospital where the Bonsai guru, Tommy Ramiah will diagnose struggling plants and give practical advice on how to make them thrive.
  • Live music: A saxophonist plays on Saturday, and live grand piano sessions on Sunday.
  • Wine, bubbly and deli stalls: Sip as you shop, then grab lunch at one of the mall's restaurants or takeaways.
  • FREE Kids' Zone: On Saturday and Sunday, the area opposite Mugg & Bean becomes a play zone with face painting, balloon sculpting, a soft play area, a Bubble House and succulent cake crafts. The Science Guy is also running Bright Sparks Workshops on both days at 10h00, 12 noon and 14h00.

"Every year more people tell us the show is the highlight of their plant calendar. Fifty-eight vendors is a big milestone for us, and we want families to come and enjoy it together," says Elesha Stewart, Marketing Manager at Killarney Mall.

Show details:

  • Dates: 30 October to 1 November 2026
  • Show Times: 09:00-16:00

Come for the plants and stay for the people.
