Fast, focused and responsible Killarney Time Attack
Killarney International Raceway came alive on 25 and 26 September for the Killarney Time Attack, powered by MD Motorsport, a division of MasterDrive. It is the first event of its kind on the African continent to carry an affiliation to the international Time Attack name.
Spectators came out in their numbers over both days, making it one of the best supported Time Attack events held at Killarney. The crowd showed that the platform and this specific racing discipline is growing in South Africa.
Each driver took on a dedicated 2.2 km point to point course alone, from a standing start, chasing the fastest time. Every tenth of a second counted and the margins at the top were tight.
When the clock stopped, multiple kings were crowned:
King of Killarney
· Nian Du Toit - first
· Silvio Scribante - second
· Aldo Scribante - third
King of Race Cars
· Nian Du Toit - first
· Silvio Scribante - second
· Aldo Scribante - third
King of Street Cars
· Wayne Hoffman - first
· Willhelm Kunn - second
· Zac Laden - third
King of Classics
· Franco Scribante - first
· Franco Donadio - second
· Silvio Scribante - third
What makes the Time Attack significant is the mix of machinery. The General Manager of Coastal regions at MasterDrive, Gino Nourse, expands: “Purpose built race cars shared the course with everyday performance cars, and the streetcar category crowned its own king. The support from spectators this year showed Time Attack has a strong future in South Africa, and we look forward to what is in store for next year.
“The weekend also reflected MasterDrive's commitment to developing new talent. Our youngest Driver Search Program winner, Suhaa Jacobs, competed at 16 years old and showed how much she has improved over the past few months,” says Nourse.
CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says events like this go well beyond the results sheet. “As increasingly powerful and technologically advanced vehicles become accessible to everyday motorists, vehicle performance needs to match driver capability.
“A controlled event gives enthusiasts a legitimate place to explore the limits of their cars, using the skill and discipline required to handle performance responsibly, rather than testing those limits on public roads. MD Motorsport was developed to achieve this objective, and this event was another successful step in that direction,” says Herbert.
Thank you to all that made the event a success, our partners Castrol South Africa, ROSE Foundation, Efficiency Sports and Marketing, Astron Killarney, Motus Ford Paarden Eiland, Valternative Energy, Scoot Up, DJI, Tracktion Experiences, WPMC and Mikes Place. MasterDrive also expresses their gratitude to officials, marshals and every spectator at the event.
The Time Attack brought together a wide range of car enthusiasts and contributes to a motoring culture that MasterDrive is proud to support. Congratulations to all the winners, and to every driver who took on the clock at Killarney.
