South African singer-songwriter with English roots is building fast momentum with the release of his second single as an independent artist, titled ‘Super Sexy Hot’.
Garry Mc Cluskey, better known by his stage name Gaz, became an influential musician in the South African music scene during his time as frontman and lyricist for the 90s band Crush. After a 5-year break in England, he is now back to take his music career to new heights as a solo show.
‘Super Sexy Hot’ comes on the back of Gaz’s debut single ‘She Play Me’, which released in September this year. While the former made use of dramatic drum beats and emotive lyrics, ‘Super Sexy Hot’ boasts a groovy retro feel that is upbeat and fun.
“It’s a celebration of guys and girls meeting up,” says Gaz. “I wanted to do something upbeat and catchy – a funky, cheeky song that hopefully cheers people up or makes them smile and celebrate.”

Both ‘Super Sexy Hot’ and ‘She Play Me’ were produced by SAMA-winner and former lead singer of Mean Mr Mustard, Mark Beling, in his Johannesburg studio. The singer and producer have a great rapport and understanding, which bodes well for the four tracks which Gaz is currently writing to turn into an EP in the near future.
He says, “Mark is excellent at adapting the melodies I have been bringing forward. He modernizes and supercharges what you bring him and pushes you hard. A true professional.”
Gaz was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne in England, but grew up between Swaziland, Johannesburg, Roodepoort and Krugersdorp.
So from Newcastle to the new normal and from South African rock to World pop, if anything can be said of Gaz’s musical journey thus far, it’s that the artist is ready to adapt and evolve at every turn in order to create music which is versatile and appealing to all.
‘Super Sexy Hot’ is available on all major digital music platforms.
