Family Values at Azura Retreats
For most people, a holiday is synonymous with family – the festive season, end of year or school holidays are spent as a rare opportunity to all share downtime together. But while having children dictates certain needs, it needn’t preclude you as a family from remote or luxury destinations.
Azura’s portfolio of properties welcomes families and offer a range of flexible accommodation, as well as activities in a world-class setting, with a range of fun and educational pastimes to keep children as well as adults occupied and entertained. With personalised service and tailor-made itineraries, families are guaranteed to take away memories to last a lifetime from a holiday taken at their own pace.
Each retreat offers its own unique appeal for families, from incredible watersports, and exclusive wildlife experiences, to opportunities for educating children about the environment, or simply enjoying the magnificent outdoors in a safe and beautiful location.
Azura Benguerra Island & Azura Quilalea Private Island
The island location of both Benguerra and Quilalea ensure a packed itinerary for young guests. Indoor activities – should the weather or the mood dictate – include pastimes like baking or cooking with the chefs, working with the activities team learning about island, visiting the Kids Spa or even sitting in on a class at the island school with the local children (at Benguerra).
Outdoors of course is a natural wonderland where they’ll be spoilt for choice for ways to spend the day, from educational marine walks, guided kayak tours, sandcastle building and stargazing, to beach picnics and kites and cricket on the sand, there is endless entertainment to be had as part of the Benguerra and Quilalea experiences. At a supplement, they can also snorkel, do diving courses (available from age 8 and up), deep-sea fishing and horse riding, all wonderful active and enriching ways to experience the idyllic setting.
Azura Selous Game Reserve
The bush experience here is a rich and rewarding one for all ages, and the experienced guides are specially trained to host children and lead them in a range of activities including tracking, spore identification, general bushcraft, fishing and bush walks. Children can do nature walks with the guides around the camp, and if
over 12 are allowed to do a walking safari along with their parents and guides. Also staying close to the lodge, The Great Ruaha river is an excellent spot for young fishing enthusiasts. When hosting families, every effort will be made to place you on private game drive vehicles for your comfort and convenience.
Activity goody bags based around the wildlife specific to Selous adds an educational layer to their experience – seeing for themselves what they’re learning about makes it all the more rewarding.
The design of the tented villas easily allows children to share with parents, but because the lodge is unfenced and guests have to be walked by the guards safely back to the tented villas at night, children must be over 16 years old to have a tented villa unsupervised.
