Top of the Hill wins for MasterDrive

A driver training organisation brought its distinctive blend of safety advocacy and motorsport passion to Zwartkops Raceway this past weekend. They played a dual role at the third edition of the Top of the Hill Challenge, competing on the hill for the first time while also giving VIP guests a taste of the action from the passenger seat.

While MasterDrive is no stranger to South Africa's motorsport calendar, this year marked the company's first time competing at Top of the Hill. MasterDrive CEO Eugene Herbert took to the two-kilometre reverse-direction course in a Porsche Boxster GTS while the Coastal GM, Gino Nourse, competed behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta ST.

Herbert placed first in his class. Nourse rounded off the strong showing for MasterDrive’s team, placing third in his class.

Throughout the weekend, MasterDrive and MD Motorsport carried the ROSE Foundation brand and its responsible used oil and overall recycling value chain message into the heart of the motorsport environment. Herbert expands:

"Through the cars, hospitality activities and engagement with competitors and guests, the partnership helped place environmental responsibility in front of an audience directly connected to vehicles, engines and lubricants."

“It is also a fitting one in a sport built on engines and motor oil paired with an organisation dedicated to recycling, so that motorsport enjoyment does not come at the environment's expense,"

says Herbert.

For MasterDrive, the weekend achieved exactly what it set out to do. Nourse says:

"It was a successful day for us, both on and off the track. It is always a privilege being able to compete ourselves while also giving guests the opportunity experience the thrill of motorsport multiple vehicles including the Alfa Romeo Elettrica Veloce. This is while working alongside a partner who understands why we are there in the first place."

“It also marked another step forward for MD Motorsport, MasterDrive's dedicated division managing the company's growing footprint in motorsport. Motorsport has become a significant part of what we do, and it makes sense to give it a home of its own. It lets us bring the same structure and intent to our racing and VIP offerings that we apply everywhere else in the business, and events like Top of the Hill show exactly why that focus is worth it,"

says Nourse.

Beyond MasterDrive's own competitive debut, the weekend delivered plenty for spectators. The event saw more than 75 competitors take on the hill across two days. This included some of South Africa's best-known names go head-to-head, including double class winner Ian Schofield, Modified Saloon victor Lee Thompson, and Street King category winner Willie de Beer.
