Great Picnic spots in Cape Town

Scan_Pay_Advertise_iloveza.com_2022

A Picnic is always a winner. Why not try one of the many venues in Cape Town that allow you to pack your own picnic and enjoy the amazing weather and scenery for the day. Cape Town has so many options. Beautiful summer sunsets on amazing beaches, stunning views at the top of Table Mountain, scenic drives along Chapman’s Peak or through the Stellenbosch winelands. We simply have it all. Here is my list of awesome spots for your picnic.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is a beautiful setting against the slopes of Table Mountain. Beautifully manicured lawns make lovely settings for picnics and spaces to play for the kids.
Open: between 8am and 7pm in summer and between 8am and 6pm in winter
Cost: R55 p/p and children, students and pensioners are eligible for discounts.

Table Mountain
The views from the top of Table Mountain are unparalleled. While the top is a bit rocky a sunset picnic when you find the right spot to lay your blanket is extremely romantic. Note though, if you have small children you may want to give this one a miss. I was very nervous letting my 3 year old run around without me. Take the cable car up and down or for the more adventurous, there are plenty hiking trails as well.
Open: Operating times are seasonal
Cost: One way ticket for adults are R135 and for kids R60. Seniors and students are eligible for discounts.

Wynberg Park
A a popular spot throughout the year with plenty of lawn and a designated play area for the kids. The grounds have several braai and picnic spots and is a great family destination.
Open: 8am – 6pm, open all year round
Cost: Entrance to the park is free.

Tokai Forest
Tokai Forest is a woodland rich with vegetation. Ideal for relaxed Sunday picnics with the family and room for kids to run around.
Open: Daily between 7am and 5pm from October to April and between 7:30am and 5pm during the winter months.
Costs R25 p/p for adults, R15 p/p for under 12s and R22 per car entering the forest.

Green Point Park
With it’s lush lawns, water features and bicycle friendly paths this urban park is a popular spot for picnics. It has a dedicated kids play area with lots of activities. The toilets are nearby this area and is well serviced. There is plenty of space and you never have to feel crowded. Stick in the ground umbrellas and gazebos are not allowed. So come early if you want a shady spot or to get one of the dedicated gazebo structures.
Open: 7am to 7pm
Cost: Free

Another option is to Order your Picnic:
The iconic Atlantic Express Cake and Coffee Train in Sea Point will deliver your picnic to Green Point Park.
Catering Cuisine also does halaal picnic baskets
Dial-a-Picnic does themed picnic baskets and they will even set up your picnic for you in specially selected spots. Halaal options are available on request.
