Redhill Arts Festival #RedFest
On Saturday 8 October 2016, Redhill will host a variety of Dramatic Productions aimed at entertaining ages 3 – adult. We invite you to join us for a day of theatre, music, family and food. Below you will find a list of shows that will cater to ages 12 - adult:
Dotted Line is a modern retelling of the Faust myth – what would drive a man to sell his soul? And what would he do to get it back? Follow the relationship between John Sterling Faust and the demon Mephistopheles as they tread a dangerous path to damnation.
HOOPVOL is based on the Afrikaans Grade 12 set work by Derick van der Walt.
Just Antigone - in Thebes, tensions are high as Antigone has disobeyed Creon's law - risking her life to honour her brother. This is an exciting ensemble work.
Johnny Boskak is Feeling Funny - where does Johnny Boskak fit in the new South Africa? Is he a white trash dinosaur? Or is he the last cowboy hero in boots and blue jeans? What we know is that he’s on the road, looking for love, redemption, an AK47 and the quickest way out of Secunda... Craig Morris stars in Greig Coetzee’s award-winning play.
Sex and me - First kisses aren’t always amazing. Sometimes they are just…wet. Offering no judgments, easy answers or simple endings, the play explores some of the experiences, influences, pressures and wonders of adolescence.
Walking Tall is a physical theatre production that takes the audience on a journey through time from the origins of the Earth to present day, addressing Africa’s critical role in the shaping of humanity.
Whistle Stop is winner of a Standard Bank Silver Ovation Award and a PANSA New Writer’s Award. This is a love story like no other; a woman, a man, a bench and all the thoughts that we think and never allow ourselves to say.
Woza Albert! is a satirical play that was first performed at The Market Theatre in 1983. It explores the sensitive subjects of Apartheid and gives audiences a glimpse of the realities of inequality during the era.
Redhill have also made space for young people to perform by introducing a Classical Guitar Competition for learners up to a Grade 8 level as well as a Mass Music Orchestral Workshop with performances by Redhill, the Music Enlightenment Project (MEP), the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls and Northside Primary School from Botswana. You are invited to attend the concert with our choirs and massed orchestra at 15h30 in the Multi-Purpose Hall. There is no entry fee but a donation box will be at the door.
