Subaru Corporation is pleased to announce that its motorsports subsidiary, Subaru Tecnica International (STI), took the SP3T class win in the 47th Nürburgring 24-Hour Race held in Germany from June 20 to 23, with the "Subaru WRX STI NBR Challenge 2019", a racing car developed based on a WRX STI mass-production model.

This was Subaru's 12th Nurburgring 24-hour race challenge since 2008, their 6th class title and their fourth win in five years. The gruelling race was held at the Nurburgring in the Eifel region of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany this past weekend.

The WRX STI participated in the class reserved for turbo-charged cars with an engine of 2.0 litres or less.

The 2019 car included several enhancements over the 2018 car, most notably faster acceleration with a lowered gear ratio, smoother gear shifting with revised step ratios, an optimized chassis geometry, and a lightweight clutch assembly for enhanced powertrain performance.

All four 2018 race-winning drivers returned for 2019 in the form of Carlo van Dam (Netherlands), Tim Schrick (Germany), Hideki Yamauchi (Japan) and Takuto Iguchi (Japan). The team started the race preparations a whole nine months in advance with testing ongoing at the Fuji Motor Speedway even up to last month.

The victory is a testament that the Subaru WRX STI is capable of fully exerting its AWD sports performance on circuits like Nürburgring, which is so-called one of the most challenging tracks in the world.
