Tintswalo Atlantic is excited to announce the appointment of Justine Suntah as Executive Chef
It’s undeniable that Tintswalo Atlantic enjoys one of the best locations in South Africa, situated at the base of Chapman’s Peak in Cape Town. The luxury shoreline lodge has long been known for its incredible hospitality – and this includes the delicious and varied food on offer from the highly trained kitchen team.
Tintswalo Atlantic is excited to announce that Justine Suntah, who has worked at Tintswalo Atlantic since December 2013, has recently been promoted to Executive Chef.
When asked where her love of food stems from, Justine recalls, “I remember when I was younger, I used to sit in the kitchen and watch my French granny cook for the family. As I got older my gran would ask me to help her prepare the food, and this is when I began to fall in love with cooking.”
It was around the age of 16 when Justine decided that cooking and being creative with food was really the direction she wanted to pursue. “It was in grade 10 that I elected Home Economics and Art as two of my chosen subjects – they fused together two of my greatest passions. And while I never really considered myself to be an artist in the general term – like a sculptor or a painter – I did see myself as someone who creates art on a plate.”
As the years went by and Justine honed her skills and created dishes for various people, she knew she’d made the right career choice. “It is such an exhilarating feeling to see guests enjoy what I present to them – the flavours in my food, as well as the visual aesthetics of my plating. It’s truly satisfying to see it being appreciated and enjoyed – that just fuels my passion.”
“When I started at Tintswalo Atlantic I was excited, nervous and a little overwhelmed,” she continues. “It is a big deal to work for a luxury 5-star boutique hotel – it has been the highlight of my culinary career so far. Being promoted to Executive Chef is just phenomenal.”
Justine started out at Tintswalo Atlantic as a Sous Chef, working under former Executive Chef Jeantelle Van Staden, who she says shaped her and taught her all the skills she needed to excel and grow. “I often hear that Tintswalo Atlantic is one of the best luxury lodges in the country and it is an honour to work here and continue my journey with the brand. I am so excited to take up this new role and excel!”
