Glitter & Toast is directed by Janice Leibowitz, and is a blog about all things lifestyle related, but have mainly concentrated on theatre, live events,TV, music and film.

With Women's Month coming up I am about to launch and initiative called 'Larger Than Life', focusing on the real-life experiences of Plus-Size women, specifically in the South African retail space.

For far too many of us, this is an often frustrating, and even painful experience, as although we might be easy to see, we're mostly not heard when it comes to what we're looking for when we go clothes shopping.

Glitter & Toast have been operating for 5 (five) years and employs 1 (one) person.

How has the lockdown affected Glitter & Toast?

Zero going out ... so absolutely NO events, theatre ... did I mention NO events!! It's the most surreal experience both for me and my family. From being out at least 2 or 3 nights a week, I am homebound, with nothing to blog about!! And for at least the first 4 months ... NO media releases in my Inbox AT all. It felt a bit like living in an alternate universe!! But now that people are recovering from their initial reeling from shock, things are creeping back (I won't say 'back to normal' because we have a very, very long way to go). We have some new local TV series to look forward to, and we're receiving promotional material for that. There's a bit of online performance to work with as well. But sadly ... very little payment being offered for us bloggers. Still, nice to be a little busier again and to be connected to the work that we love so much.

What measures has Glitter & Toast taken to ensure that they stay afloat during lockdown? 

I've stayed in contact with the people I've always worked with, whether it's been via social media, whatsapp, or whatever method that's worked best. Even though there's been very little work, the blog's still alive and sort-of kicking. Keeping those connections and above all, the friendships, has been vital. At the end of the day, I've found that it's not always about 'business' but about caring for others, and just a message here and there, whatever platform you send it on, makes all the difference.

Why do you think Glitter & Toast deserves to win the After Fajr Grind Awards?

I've never been good at marketing myself and putting myself out there, so now might be a good time to do that (says me and hundreds of everybody else!). But maybe also because I'm really trying to be a voice for Plus-Size women, and I'm finding that so many of them have been forced into a corner and into hiding (so to speak), forced to be embarassed and NOT to speak up for themselves. So I'd really like to speak for them.
